southern automotive 406 / 428
Hi all. I need advice. I'm getting a Unique Cobra 427 built here shortly. I would really like the 427 but just can't afford it. I will be showing and cruising ..... no racing....in it. I live in Atlanta area where you are in traffic consistently, so overheating is a concern. Currently, I'm planning on having a 406 installed, but for a little more, I could go with the 428. I have been told that I would not tell the difference by driving them. Do the two motors have a different resale value?
So what are your thoughts? Thanks |
You're certainly better off with a 428 in a Cobra.....the 406 has the same bore....add the 428 crank setup and you're there...
Go with the 428.....the radiator and sucker fan in the Cobra will regulate the heat.... the 406 will not be helpful when you go to sell the car.... G |
Yes, definately better off with the 428. You will loose resale value if you go with the 406. There shouldn't be very much difference in the price, a couple hundered bucks or so, and it will increase the value of the car several times over the increase in cost.

The 'stock' 470HP 428 is $2000 more than the 'stock' 406 (a 430 HP 390FE) or $4000 more if you go with a Dual 4 barrel.
The 406 is the engine they use to replicate a 427 when you add the optional extras. Least that's what I remember. regards Doug I |
Thanks George and rritchey. I dont have alot money and what i have, plus a small loan.. im getting a cobra. Now if something comes up , the cobra will probably go. So resale is important to me...... And thanks Doug. The 428 is 2,000 more than the 406

olblue, you should shop around on motor pricesI have laways been able to find 428 cheeper than 406s
