Thanks for the info I will find out what gear I have on the cam.
I do know that they changed the gear on the distributor I am guessing to a bronze but not sure on the cam. The cam was a custom grind. |
Priobe,
Just to clarify; the cam gear is not changeable. It either comes from the cam vendor with the std steel gear (cut into the cam billet material) or it has the optional presssed-fit cast iron gear. If cam has steel gear - distributor needs bronze. If cam has iron gear - distributor gear is stock. If you use bronze dist gear be prepared to check occasionally for backlash and replace as required. |
Proibe If you run an external oil pump or dry sump, you should never have to worry about the dist gear. Make sure the end play is no greater than.004 on the cam. If you put a small groove in the lower housing of the distrubutor this will help lube where the gears meet and prevent wear out. Comp Cams sells a polymer gear. I have one but have not but it in a motor yet. Was told it is as strong as steel and will not wear. Is this motor an endurance boat motor from the spec I see? What are the tork readings, hp is great. This are a different combo than anyone else runs, like to see how it works out. Rick Lake
