Alum Block 427 Valve Cover Gasket

Is there a trick or a product that will stop valve covers from leaking. I tried the cork, and then the rubber. Nothing seems to work, I am going nuts. Please help with a fullproof solution.

Clean both surfaces, glue the cork gasket to the cover using 3m W/S adhesive, let it dry, lightly oil the gasket and install with moderate pressure.:)

i get stuck on some of the tougher things, actually...
..the valve covers are pretty easy.
:p

Yes, making sure that you have the original amount of thread sticking out on every nut can be difficult.

You WILL have valve cover leaking problems.

For authenticity sake, of course!

Make sure the intake manifold gasket is flush with the manifold/heads where the valve cover gasket passes over it. Sometimes the intake manifold gasket will stick up by about 1/8 inch or so making it nearly impossible to get the VC gasket to seal properly. If it does stick up, just trim it down so it's flush.

Do as Chris suggested then put a small amount of Hi-Temp RTV sealant in this area, front an rear. Where the intake and head meet. I have had good luck with Felpro Rubber Gaskets. I personally dont like to screw with the cork if you have a solid lifter engine. The other brands of rubber gasket are too hard and don't seal good. I dont use anything more than a 1/4" drive to snug them down, going inside to outside , top, then bottom. Let them heat cycle twice and snug down each time. Works for me with Pentroof Steel Covers so the aluminum should be better.

OK, Here you go.......

Clean both surfaces with brake cleaner or similar solvent. Glue the cork gasket to the valve cover using good quality RTV. Let sit lightly compressed overnight. Then coat the otherside with wheel bearing grease. Attach the valve cover to the head. Uniformily tighten the vavle cover bolts. If you ever have to remove the valve cover again you can still reuse the gaskets. Give it a try then tell me how you like it.:D

Good talking with you Allan.

Not knowing the differences of alluminum version over original. Usually the intake gasket will protrude above the intake maniflold and head.I was told thity tears ago to not cut that little piece off just carefully peen it down.Another point is the head and manifold should meet forming a flat surface for the valvecover to seal against. My engine ,the intake manifold was quite a bit higher, appearently the heads had been milled .After some checking I ended up having the manifold to head surfaces milled, lowering manifold so gasket ,ports , and top edges all lined up.They had been running with the ports and gasket askew. The trade off which allways happens is there is no room for the original cork gasket at the front and back of the manifold to engine.Make sure the covers havent been bent or warpped .Everything needs to be flat.and do not get carried away tightening. You loose when things bend.
