Blue Thunder manifold question

Could some members tell me what they use for a pcv set up with the Blue Thunder manifold on an FE engine? I want to use the pent roof valve covers with no breathers if possible. Can you use a plate at the rear of the intake and install a grommet? If so do you need a baffle under the pcv to prevent oil consumption? Thanks, Ed

I am using a Blue Thunder 2 x 4 intake manifold with a PCV setup by Gessford Machine. The Gessford PCV assembly is very complete including a nicely machined basket to hold the stainless steel baffle material. Check the Gessford Machine website for more details. I am using valve cover breathers in addition to the PCV setup.

Ed, I was thinking more about that after you left my shop the other day. You can put the PCV in the back of the intake, but there still needs to be some kind of way for the air to enter the crankcase. I am thinking the oil fill breather should do the trick, but I'd like to hear from others as well. I don't want any caps in my valve covers either.

Why do you need a Pvc? I just put on the alum. breather that Finishline sells.

IMHO (and my favorite engine builder), all dual plane intakes, as a rule of thumb, should have a pcv. The exception is a high HP engine (defined as apx. 600hp), then 2 breathers are ok. This is because the vacuum created by such a high hp engine will allow it to vent properly through 2 breathers.

Single plane intakes should only have a pcv in the intake, not the valve covers. Most single plans have the carb elevated causing velocity vacuum which will hinder ventilation. In single planes (regardless of hp) I would go with 2 breathers. If you don't want to ventilate the valve covers then go with the rear breather tube and forward filler tube by machining those openings into the intake.
...........Nobody likes oil on their chrome valve covers!
