428 to Stack efi conversion

I've been getting a number of questions about this project from a post I had under parts for sale so I though I would start a new tread and get the conversation out of that area. I think I'll use this as my progress report area as well.

Anyway here it goes.

Just curious, what EFI system are you running?

Answer: Very Cool Parts Stack system with a Tec3r ecu.

Thanks Dennis, I've been looking at that system and the Mass-Flo, hard to decide. Duh, guess I just had to look at your user info. Oh well, while I'm at it why did you choose the stack system?

Answer:
Hi John,

I changed the user info after your question so don't feel bad

I chose the stack system because of the looks. If you look at my photos you will see I have always run multiple carbs.

Dennis,

Have you worked out your crank sensor and cam sensor equipment. If so, what are you using and where are you getting it from?

Answer:

I think I have. I bought the Universal Crank trigger wheel that Electromotive sells and sent it over to Tom Lucas at FE specalities. He is doing the machine work on it and making the sensor mount for me.

As for the Cam sensor, there was not one that was commercially available that I could find for the FE. George over at Gessford has been working with me to make one using the oil pump drive he already makes and some cam sensor parts reccomended by MSD. Should be pretty trick! You can see some pictures under the thread "EFI - Distributorless Ignition" .

Just keeping you guys updated. I almost have all my parts so assembly will be starting soon! Keith Craft heads are here, just need to clay them to make sure I have the correct valve clearance. Crank trigger should be here any day now and then off to the chromer for it. My tec3 system came in this week as well. Once the wide band O2 sensor and the cam sync get here, I will be putting on the full court press to get this thing finished.

Just wanted to show you the difference with the stack polished.

Dennis:
Good looking setup either way.
Please keep on reporting on your progress. I'm looking at almost the same setup (not sure about which electronics to use) from VCP and would like to know what to look or look out for.

Dennis

Can you post a pic of your crank trigger when it arrives and what is the diameter of your crank wheel? I'm also converting from dual quad setup to SEFI for my TP and will probably be using Electromotive HPX distributorless ignition and Tec3 ECU.
Thanks,

Ken

The Electromotive system doesn't require a cam sensor.

Are you providing for one in case you want to change ECM's at a future date?

Dennis Mosley 01-28-2005 05:01 PM

Sizzler, you are correct that electromotive does not require a came sensor for bank firing however, they DO require a cam sensor if you want to run it in full sequential mode.

I don't really have a need to run full sequential I'm just doing it just because.

Dennis, very cool system for a 428 FE. I've been waiting for a company to make this injection set-up for these engines. Now, thanks to you, I can see a engine build in progress. Someday, I wish to to use this system. I have a few questions. In comparison to a high rise manifold (Vic Jr.) with a carb V.S the stacked injection, what is the height difference ? (my manifold/carb. is very close to the hood.) Did you have to modify your hood ? What is the apx. total cost for the whole system ?

Your the MAN......Dennis. You've done a great job and now, your injection photo is my screen saver ! Very nice my friend.

Thanks,
Kevin

Kevin,

Does not look like I'm going to have a problem with hood clearance but I'm sure yet. I don't plan to drop the engine into the car till sometime next week. Doing a lot of trips for work and it's getting in the way of my fun.

I should have some new project pictures soon.

FUNFER2 02-08-2005 06:56 PM

Great, keep me posted.

Dennis Mosley 02-10-2005 06:31 PM

this is what she will look like. intake, water pump and throttle bodies are just fitted in place and held in place with a couple bolts for the picture. Will most likely put it together this weekend if I can work out a couple issues.

Also, someone had asked that I post a picture of the crank trigger and sensor holder when I got it in. I haven't polished it yet but here's what it looks like.

Things are starting to get fun now!

Dennis Mosley 02-10-2005 06:33 PM

Oh and in case you didn't see it on the other thread, Here is the Cam position sensor that Gessford did for me

It's going to get a good polishing too.:3DSMILE:

FUNFER2 02-10-2005 07:34 PM
