FE Iron heads C4AE

I have a pair of C4AE 6090G big port heads for sale. These heads are listed among the most desirable oem cast iron heads. They are complete assembled w/ original valves and springs, no rocker assy's. Good used condition, no sunk valves. $300.00 plus shipping. I can also rebuild these heads, and would be willing to do some light port/bowl/chamber (cc) work as well, for an added cost, of course.

Thats a good price, but I'm fuzzy on what they are. High rise? Mid rise? What? The intake needs to match the heads so it's important to know.

I have the C4AE 6090 F high rise heads.

These are not Hi Riser heads...just what I was told as a "big port" head, probably med. riser. Don't know what they came off of. Ports measure ~1.36 X 2.30. I think casting codes indicate '65 casting.

The only reference I can find to a "C" head is for a '63 406. There are "A', "H", "G", "F", but I can't find a "C"! Dang it,,,, is it possibly a "G" mis-read as a "C"?

Sllick, yes, I guess it is a G. The head of the little screw that they screwed the tag to the mold with is right in the middle of the letter...can hardly see the little straight part of the G, but it's there. So what does that make these?

Thanks,
Scott

There is a LOT of information on FE heads, but finding conclusive information is difficult.

C4AE 6090 G
The 6090, by the way, means it IS a "head", not a block or whatever. It would appear that these heads are from a 390 with the early "high port" configuration. Some say these are pretty good heads and respond well to a little porting work. For the money, there hard to beat.

For comparison the C4AE-6090-F (high rise) heads sell for $1600 or so! I'm not sure what a set of "medium risers" might go for, but they flow pretty close to the high rise and are much more common.

There ya go. Thanks for the info. Truely appreciate it.:3DSMILE:

These heads are the best bang for the buck in FE heads. Other heads of inerest are the C0AE 352 HP units which also have the large ports, both of which are exactly the same ad the 1963-1965 427 lowrise heads which are now getting $$$.

Perhaps the highest evolution for the FE in conventional heads are Medium Rise heads. These are selling for $1,000 and more. Yes high rise heads are larger but ultimately your FE can't turn fast enough to use them effectively.

The following is a comparison of FE's based on flow characteristics:

CI Lift IV" CFM EV" CFM HP (Potential)
390 .600 2.04 261 1.57 166 486 Std. FE pass head

428CJ .600 2.09 243 1.65 174 500 (427 Lo Riser & 428 CJ)

427HR .600 2.19 246 1.73 165 506 (Hi Riser C4AE-F)

427MR .600 2.19 296 1.73 177 609 (Medium Riser C5AE)

427TP .600 2.25 308 1.73 166 634 Tunnel Port

427 SOHC .600 2.25 355 1.90 248 730 Cammer

429 .600 2.08 272 1.66 177 560

429CJ .600 2.25 331 1.72 201 681 Cobra Jet

429 Boss .600 2.28 379 1.90 225 780

Thanks, Micheal.
C'mon, now..this is a killer deal on a good set of heads. Don't let these get away. I've been holding on to these for quite a while, but need the money for another project, so let my loss be your gain!
