RTV question
 
I know many of you use either Blue or Orange RTV on the front and back of your intake manifolds instead of the Cork. Is there a problem using the Black RTV? I'd rather not use orange or blue if I don't need to and plus I already have the black.

I've always used the cork before...and it's always leaked. Thought I'd go the RTV route with the new manifold.

Mine was orange, tried to clean it up but it still showed. Black is a good idea, I'll look into that too.

Used the black and the blue, both work.

Black was easier to deal with, as my engine is yellow.

I used Ultra copper on the headers and it still looks iritating.

I have used both the Orange and Black and have not had a problem with either. Best stuff I have found is called The Right Stuff and is black. Comes in an aresol can and you just cut the plastic tip to put out a bead then let it set. Rick Parker told me about it and it has stopped a couple of seeps that I had from the transmission and another place.

where can you find "the right stuff"? Is it something you have to order or can you pick it up someplace like autozone or Napa?

I stopped by NAPA on the way in to work today and picked up a can of "The Right Stuff".

Stuff ain't cheap so I'm glad I had someone to vouche for it.

Most RTV that I use black ,white and clear are not oil resistant and expand after prolonged contact with oil . The orange is higher temp and some what oil resistant. The blue is oil resistant. The blue takes longer to set up. The orange has set up so fast on me that I didn't get around an oilpan flange before it was getting grainy when I tried to smooth it out.You can form a RTV gasket by applying the RTV to one surface and after some setting up a coat of oil will keep it from sticking to the other surface like a valve cover or thermostat gasket that you may want to take appart again.
