Using Shell Type 302 Solid Lifters in FE

I am having trouble finding a set of FE shell type solid lifters. So, I was wondering if anyone has used SBF shell type solid lifters in their FE and compensated with push rod length? The 302 - 351 parts are readily available.

DSC has shells for an FE.

No, I haven't used the small block type, but Comp Cams makes them for an FE. I have a set on the shelf in the garage. I'm at work now, but if you need a part # let me know.

Hi Clois,
If you are running a flat tappet cam with the lifter gallies pluged you can run any V-8 Ford lifter (no flat heads or Y-blocks!)
All the Fords use a .874 lifter diameter. The only issues that arise is if you are trying to oil the pushrods through the lifters.

Got a set of FE Shell type lifters ordered today so I guess I don't have to get creative. Thanks everyone.

You need apprpriate push rods for those shell lifters. If your block is a tall deck or anyother mod you may need rods a little longer or shorter to get the geometry correct. With shell lifters the pushrod end sits at bottom of lifter ,just a fraction away from the actual cam lobe.My machinst ordered replacement pushrods from an outfit in Origon.Mine were standard length. after my cam went flat, I ordered another set and replacements for my original set of lifters from Summit. The push rods are available from Summit also.
Shell lifters were the original solid lifters in the early FE (1958) 332 then 352. Before hydraulic lifters , solid lifters were standard equipment.
