What pushrods on 428 with Edelbrock heads
Please help me with pushrods for my engine build. My Edelbrock heads say to use a ball and cup pushrod that is 9.370" overall length. I have tried looking on Summit, Ford Racing, and DSC, and do not see any matches. I am running the Edelbrock RPM cam and Crane adjustable valvetrain.
Please let me know: 1. what manufacturer 2. part number 3. where to buy them. |
To many variables to be "sure" of what length pushrod to use!
Has the block been "milled" (decked) so it is not as tall as it used to be? You need to verify deck height is standard first thing. "Probably" the heads are standard thickness and both the same thickness, being new ones? I guess you could "assume" the head rocker arm shaft mounting pads are standard height, and the rocker stands have not been milled down (mine were)! I would do a "dry assembly" by mounting at least one head (with gasket) to the block, cam and lifter and check with an "adjustable push rod" to determine correct length. George (Gessford) sent me an adjustable pushrod checker to use, but you can buy them fairly reasonable. I then ordered my push rods through him. Determine length and order "custom" push rods. I wonder if in fact the 9.370 IS a "custom" size all ready? |
I have standard deck height and the heads are "out of the box". I don't even have any stock pushrods to begin with. What is the length of a stock 428 pushrod?

I think it's 9.328 for standard, so there recommending a rod slightly longer than standard.
What about lifter length? My roller lifters were taller than my solid lifters, which is only ONE of several reasons I had to go custom. |
