Top Oiler vs Side Oiler

What exactly is a top oiler? ... and a side oiler? And the pro's/con's between the two?

sparks 05-24-2005 07:06 PM

dont forget the center oiler !!

Anthony 05-24-2005 07:14 PM

The top oiler got its name from the oil gallary above the cam, with oil first feeding around the cam bearing BEFORE reaching the main and rod bearings. The Side oiler design fed oil directly from the oil gallary to all of the main bearings and then rod bearings, which the new Shelby block does.

Yeah, what about that Center Oiler?

jdog 05-24-2005 07:49 PM

Twice the price!

You can build 2 good fe top oilers, for the price of one side oiler!

jdog:cool:
P.S. What makes you happy can also make you sad!

misfit41 05-24-2005 08:42 PM

top oiler=center oiler

jdog 05-24-2005 09:07 PM

OK Both!

OK, you can build both a top oiler & center oiler for the price of a side oiler!

jdog:cool:
P.S. The 427fe side oiler is an engineering marvel, not soon to be duplicated! All other engines are 'WEAK' by comparison!

G.

No,,, they "replicated" it. :D

By the way, do the center oilers have thicker cylinder wall allowing for a bigger bore with less concern than the "thin wall" casting of a side oiler?
