Got an FE cast question....
I have a lead on an engine.....the owner said it's a 361 truck engine...but he says it's a 1979 engine.....
I did the prelim stuff and asked for the cast numbers....he replied by just giving me the cast number off of the valve cover.. D8YE-9C485 It's supposedly out of an F700 truck....but I can only find references to 370's, 429's, and diesel engines in those trucks... My FE reference book doesn't have block cast numbers up to '78. I think D4 is where it stops..... You think this is really an FE? Service block maybe? |

NO,14 PLUS YEARS WITH FORD AND I RECOGNIZE THE PART #
D IS FOR 70'S 8 IS FOR 78 AND Y IS FOR LINCOLN LINE AND E MEANS STANDARD PRODUCTION ITEM. I THINK YOU WOULD FIND THE SEVERAL BOOKS OUT THERE ON REBUILDING FORD ENGINES VERY INTERESTING. I STILL LEARN ALL THE TIME. HOW IS YOUR SHELL VALLEY COMING? GOOD LUCK, BYRON |
