We now have an all aluminum FE for 16,000.00
We have been working on a package that would make good power yet let anyone own an all aluminum FE for about 16,000.00. We have taken the Pond aluminum block along with a Scat cast steel crankshaft and 4340 H-beam rods, JE pistons, Comp hydraulic roller camshaft, Canton oil pan, stock front cover, BHJ SFI damper, KCR stage 1 heads, Edelbrock Performer intake, Holley HP vacume secondary carburetor, MSD distributor and wires, Edelbrock waterpump, Ford Racing Cobra LeMans valve covers and balanced and assembled it into a very nice package that makes 550 to 575hp and 570 to 590ft/lbs torque{depending on camshaft} that is very drivable.
Who would have thought that you could have done this a few years ago. With our volume buying power and our state of the art shop we have developed this lower cost package for the FE. Since the Pond FE block is of original architecture, vs the Shelby FE what has been done to assure proper lubrication to the hydraulic roller assembly? There was concern on bearing failure when original engine is used at lower rpm. Failure was occuring within 3k miles. And...........any durability problems with the Shelby hydraulic roller assy. and valve train? Have you gotten feedback from customers with substancial mileage on their motors? We have got customers out there with about 4000 to 5000 miles on these hydraulic rollers in FEs. We have small blocks of course with 100,000 miles on them and more.
The Pond block is drilled such that the lifter bores do get oil to them. We have seen no problem with them so far and do not know why we would. The Shelby block has worked fine for us in this regard as well. I do not see a problem with either block in the oiling department. We always check the blocks and oil galleys before we work on them and then we check the oiling when we prime them. We have sen no bearing problems with any of the engines. Thanks, Keith |

I've been watching your progress since you first came on board. A friend of mine in MA has one of your engines and he really likes it. The 16k package sounds like a great deal but, the 390 currently running in my car already has Edelbrock heads, intake and water pump. I have an MSD, a brand new Canton pan, 4 spare front covers, and fasteners - full set of ARP main and head studs are there as well. Carb, air cleaner, yup, all there. I really would like to upgrade to a 427 but don't want to re-purchase all of these same components. Do you refresh and upgrade engines like mine? I have stockpiled a 428 crank, and CJ block as well but want a 427. Do we need to talk off line? Jeff Guisto |
