427 Fe To
Hello. I have been given the opportunity to purchase an original 427 Top Oiler block. I was wondering if this is a sound investment. I know that the TO is not as sought-after as the SO, but the gentleman that I am buying the block from is only asking $800. I have a written guarantee that the block will pass all magnaflux and other similar tests, but I am not sure if a TO is really worth $800. He also has a 427 SO block that he wants $1500 for as well as 427 tunnel port heads for $900 and 427 low riser heads for $600. 427 medium riser heads are $750 and high risers are $800. His steel 427 crankshaft is $450, and forged 427 nascar rods are $55 each. His 427 tunnnel port intakes are $600 and his 427 high riser 2x4 intakes are $1000. Are these prices reasonable or what should I do? Please respond.

If they are in good shape meaning no sleeves and not bored more than .30 over, I believe it is extremely fair. I've seen 427 SO's go for over 4K and 427 TO's go for 2.5K. CB |
When I talked to the gentleman and looked at the blocks, they were all standard blocks and none had sleeves. I think I am going to buy 3 blocks, build 2 engines and sell the second block on E-bay for $3000. Unless someone at Club Cobra wants it, then I'll sell it to them for $1800!

Joker,
I would seriously be interested in the SO at that price. Even the TP heads. To me it looks like the only thing that is not a huge steal is the 2x4 intakes at $1k. Chris |
I've seen the 2X4 intake go for $1500, IF you can even find one! I'm talking FORD OEM alloy intake here. Same for the high rise heads, those are GREAT heads and HARD to find. A reasonable price but expect to pay big bucks to get them ready to run. Bear in mind if you high riser heads you MUST have a high riser intake. There are NO "after market" intakes that will fit, including Edelbrock and Shelby alloy heads. Pass on the low riser heads, don't waste your money. Medium riser is worth looking at.
Seems almost TO cheap for the S.O. block, whats wrong with this picture? T.O. block is a nice price. |

Grab the SO blocks if they are clean and within .030
Think about the heads. If you go HR, you have to fully commit.....heads, mani, etc. BTW, most HR's were not very steet friendly. Good luck. Michael Bernica |

Parts
Get the guy to make you a package deal on all of the stuff except the low riser heads and save a little money that way. I will send you the money and then give you the center oiler block for your trouble. Let me know what you think about that deal. If you do buy the stuff or do not buy all of it I would like to talk to him about some pieces. Thanks, Keith Craft

Keith,
I do hope you see that I was first in line with the SO. :) Promise if I get it you will eventually see it. Chris |
Sounds good to me. I hope he gets all the good parts purchased or lets us all go get them and put them to good use. Good luck, Keith

Hey guys. The guy says he won't do any package deals and that the price he previously quoted is FIRM. I believe that I am going to purchase all but the low-riser heads. If anybody would like to buy anything, let me know and we can come up with something. Hey Keithc8, thanks for responding to my e-mail about the 427 SO build so quickly, your help is always greatly appreciated.
