Clutch Slave Cylinder?
Hi Guys,
So what's the best clutch slave cylinder to use? I just took a look at the one Finish line sells for (Gulp) $175........ I remember reading something about a Mazda B2000 part, and ERA uses one from a BMW. I'm not afraid to build a mount, but I'm not sure what cylinder to start with. I'm running a "standard" Tilton 3/4" master. Thanks! Jon |
If you will go to NAPA and look at their illustrations of the slave cylinders, the one you are after is sourced from a late 50's-60's Ford truck. I think it is 3/4" diameter. It has a tab on the cast body with 2 holes for 3/8" bolts

Rick, is that a push or pull unit? The Wilwood I use leak practically from day one...

Push type on the NAPA item.

Jon,
The NAPA #353223 slave at Less than $56, good to go. grumpy |
Grumpster, the Napa number came up blank on their site. I ordered one for a 1960 Ford truck. It looked just like the one in the Finish Line picture, but it was $130 cheaper.......:) I'll let you know if it fits in a day or two.
Thanks, Jon |
I used a NAPA 3/4" slave (push type) that was part # 37498 and was around $55

what makes you feel comfortable
Jon,
Sorry the NAPA number is TS-4433721 on the previous item request, the one I noted is a NAPA/photo number for stocking/shelving purposes I will stick with the 0.998" bore slave with a 0.870" bore clutch master cylinder, and a simple 1/4" plate steel bracket over any other combinations, and there are hundreds of methods and fasteners available. Pressure = (Leg force on the pedal) x (Pedal Ratio) divided by (Master Cylinder Piston Area) with Pi times (radius of the piston squared) times (the piston) Used for decades on FE/Lima big block AC/COBRA type Reproductions with out a flaw. So ever what rattles your cage. grumpy |

Really tried to make sure the push was in the middle of the plunger and traveling equally in the bore, instead of running on one wall, it took some time as well a tweaking the fork. You comment 7/8" master to 1" slave is the ticket. I have Wilwood which only has a 3/4" master (largest) and sleeved the slave to 7/8" Being math challenged does subtracting 1/8" from each windup with the same ratio as yours? Thanks |
The one I ended up with (1960 Ford Pickup)has a part number of 2333721. At first look, there is no easy way to mount this thing. Do any of you guys have a picture of how yours is installed? I'm thinking that maybe the $20 aluminum one with the sideways mounting holes might "rattle my cage " more than the $45 cast Iron one with the lengthwise holes. Aluminum polishes better, check my gallery.......:)
Thanks, Jon |

Hi Jon,
I have an original frame and tried a the Ford 1960 pickup slave shown. Tried Raybestos and Napa as well as a CNC which mounts sideways. This worked best for me. Not good at posting pictures, send me a PM if you want a hi-def photo. Hope this helps. |
John,
Look at the Finishline bracket or better yet, call them and see if they will sale you just the bracket. You need to be careful as Warrior mentioned that those slaves are 1" bore (at least all of the one I found) and you will probably not get enough travel with a master with a bore of 0.75" or less. |
