Built or as-delivered Edelbrock Heads?

I am shopping for Edelbrock Heads for my 390 and have seen on this site that people recommend buying them bare and having them built. But I've also seen that folks just buy the already-built heads from Edelbrock and bolt 'em up.

What's the prevailing opinion on this? My cam is mild now but I plan to install one with a little more lift/duration later. Heads first. I have a 428 PI alum Ford intake now with a 700cfm Holley.

If I have someone build the heads I assume I should also buy them from that person? Who are the recommended head experts that forum members are experienced with? I have seen ebay ads for DSC Motorsports and they will build up the bare heads for about $1500. Is that about right?

Perhaps this has already been discussed here, if so, where?

Thanks,

Paul

If you plan any serious RPM's you will want matching valve springs for your mild cam to keep the valves from floating. You get into a serious cam & you will want matching valve springs & check them for bind no matter what. Any real performance build should warrant more controlled specs throughout.

I'd give Keith Craft a call for the Edelbrock heads.

Another option is Flatlander Racing
