wiring mess
Well i tried to wire in a pushbutton momentary switch and a regular switch to cut all power to the acc. side of the key switch. Did away with key switch. Any one else do this. If so , can you explain how you did it. Im at wit ends on this mess. Thanks

Well I have the pushbutton on seperate power and its ok. Now I would like to kill the power to anything after the switch---all acc. and the ignition. I also have a msd ignition, not sure but i think it picks power up from somewhere else. The power was going to the the battery terminal on the ignition switch. Then acc. on one side,and ign. on the third side . The center was for the starter.
I would like to kill all voltage after the toggle switch is tured off, including ignition. I think there 25 to 27amps with all loads on. Checked them in line with a meter.the meter only goes to 10 amp dc.I checked them seperate, one at a time. Could i put a 40 amp dc relay in line so the switch would be ok. thanks |
I have a Mallory battery kill switch in my trunk next to the battery (std. contemporary location). I have an ignition switch which pulls power off the fuse block (hot all the time) and my MSD runs off two locations on the starter selinoid. I did this because the starter selinoid is fed directly by OO gauge battery cable and the positive side of the starter selinoid (key on) is an easy place to access if the MSD needs to be changed.
I'm a little unclear on why you want to kill power AFTER the switch. Is the momentary switch for the starter? This would make sense and be correct for an english car, AC, MG Austin, Triumph, etc. It is likely the key switch powers several circuts including the starter selinoid which may in turn power others (not uncommon). Why do you want to kill power after the switch? It makes more sense to kill power before the switch. You can use a NC ( Normally closed ) 12V DC relay and pass the Acc. through the contacts. The push button can be used to activate the relay and interrupt the NO contacts.
