Need Help Rear Breather 427 & Webers
Hello,
I would like to know what you guys with the 427 are using for the rear ventilation. I currently using the "S" breather and would like to change it out for clearance on the rear firewall. Is it neccesary to use a catch can for oil if I use a plate with a tube, also if I use a breather will it blow oil everywhere? |
I bought a plate to cover the rear opening where your breather is and installed my PVC valve there. You must have a breather somewhere; I use the oil filler tube breather that fits in the intake. You also must baffle the PCV valve; I use on of these Mr Gasket #5425:

YUp, those are the ones. I have looked around with no luck yet. Maybe we have someone here in the grommet industry, or who has been, that can help us out with some info....

Here's what's in mine
This is the wire basket that I think the originals used. I have this under my tall breather in the rear. You can buy these over the internet somewhere, as I did about a year ago. Just can't remember the source - maybe Finishline?

priobe, you can put a PCV valve in either of the valve covers or in the rear, it doesn't matter. I believe I've seen the wire baskets HSSS427 shows on ebay for somewhere around $50, which I think is ridiculous. Obviously if that's the only thing that works for you it's worth the money. From my experience, it depends on what you're doing with your car...roadracing puts more stress on the system, often needing a "puke tank" for excess oil to be collected in. Street driving shouldn't need anything more than a PCV valve. You can put a flat plate over the hole in the back of the intake and the PCV valve in a valve cover. The valve covers should also be baffled, and most are, with tin.
Strictly speaking, you don't even need a PCV valve; but the PCV valve collects the blowby and mixes it with the fuel charge. Oh, and yes, I ran a hose off the top of the PCV into the carb baseplate (straight vacuum, not ported). Dan |
I sell the breather baskets from Blue Tunder for something like 20 bucks.
Personally I just treat the FE like anything else and use a solid cover on the rear, and PCV/breathers in the valve covers. You really should have the PCV in one and some sort of breather in the other. Barry R Survival Motorsports |
