Barry, Could you explain your EMC ring selection?

4.35 piston with 4mm oil ring?

Barry_R 06-16-2006 06:24 PM

Sure,
The 4.0mm was the only reduced radial wall thickness ring available for the 4.350 bore. The reduced radial wall let me run lower expander tension - - frees up a bit of power.

JE lists J100 (1/16, 1/16, 3/16) in 4.25, 4.28, 4.31, 4.32, 4.35, .4.36, 4.375, 4.39,and 4.44 an and J200 (.043, 1/16, 3/16) in 4.28, 4.31, 4.375, 4.39,and 4.44 . Both have 11-12# oil tension. Top ring is moly coated and not backcut.

Total Seal lists a 'Gold Finish dry with a .0002 finish optional gapless top ring, Napier second ring and unspecified low tension oil ring in 4.28. Some people seem to like the gapless top ring.

Would those be good choices?
