FE w/ TriPower?
I am working on a project car, trying to be as correct as economically possible within my budget.
Plans call to use a 390 FE, affordable yet physically accurate . . . But then my emotions get hold of me. Am I shooting myself in the foot if I put tri-power on the block? Being raised in that generation, I know 3 x 2 is not vehicle correct but there is nothing cooler than the sound of three two barrels coming open. Assuming a Hurricane body w/ FE & Tremec - being period correct as reasonable, how bad would the tripower hurt the vehicle? Thanks for any comments Paul |

Well since you are going with a Tremic instead of a toploader what does it matter? I had the 2 X 4 set up and didn't like them for what I was doing although they did work pretty well on the drag strip. I have always liked the look and sound of 3 x 2's and I think if that is what you want to do then do it. One of the fastest cars at Run and Gun is a 289 with a 3 X 2 setup and maybe a few other things here and there. This is your dream car so I think you should make yourself happy. Another thing, I bet someone put a 3 X 2 setup on a Cobra in the sixties!

To my knowledge, the only manifold available is the original one by Ford from the 61-62 Ford and Thunderbird.
It surely was built by an aftermarket company, who may also offered it, but the primary source was FoMoCo I am open to correction, or better yet, additional sources of the manifold Thanks for the link on the Six Shooter. Your right on the intake Paul. 2 versions were available. One for the Galaxie and one for the Tbird. The Tbird intake was mlled flat as the engine sat level in the birds. The Galaxie intakes were angled to compenate for the engine angle. But as Paul mentioned the oem intakes are the only game. There was mention in the part of a repop being made but nothing to date. The 3x2 is a way cool system. I've had them and they ran great. Carls Ford parts sells complete setups with new re issue holleys made from the original castings. HP trends has a great tech,tune and rebuild download. www.hptrends.com if you buy new or choose to rebuild an exsisting setup.

I'm sure different Cobra makes have different hood clearance, but the original style oval air cleaner won't fit under my hood with the shortest air cleaner. My point in mentioning this is...will it all fit under your hood, even with a hood scoop?
