Expansion Tanks

Are Ford expansion tanks specific to the engine, to the vehicle, to the decade or all?

When I am looking for a used expansion tank for an FE, will any Ford tank from the mid 60's work or do I need to be more specific?

If so, which unit is preferred?

Thanks

Paul

They're specific for the engine, as one for a smallblock won't fit an FE, and there are left and right handed versions. You figure out which side your top radiator hose has to connect to and make sure you get a tank with the outlet on that side. The tanks can be reversed to change position of the outlet if necessary. On some cars you may have to shorten the unit for hood clearance.

If you decide on what you need, I have 4 for sale. They are all FE and one is reconditioned and pressure tested.
