Junk Yard
About a month ago I was on a parts hunt and found a junk yard about an hour from me that still has old cars. He said he had 5 thunderbirds form 64 to 69 with FEs. I did't go further because I found what I was looking for elseware. I was wondering what these motors would be worth? He said they are complete in the cars and wanted 500 to 700 a piece for the motor. Anyone know what a FE core is worth? I might go out and take some pictures and collect some numbers.

Most likely 390's, typical for those years. It's a head scratcher what their worth. Low riser intake\heads I would guess.

Birds....
The 428 became available starting in '66 and lasting through '68 for Birds.
Little doubt that most 66 - 68 Birds had 390's. 385's were phased in during the '68 model year, so it's possible to find '68's with either an FE or 385. '69 Birds only came with 385's. ....Fred |
I bought a 390 out of a '65 ford in a junkyard a couple years ago for $100, complete except for starter & alternator. My son-in-law bought one at a swap meet (we hauled it home in my PU) a year ago for $100. They're around, you just can't be in a hurry.

$$$$$$
I bought a 67 wagon with a 428 in it for $500. Sold the body to the scrap yard for $209. I bought 5 352's ( 390 truck motors and car ) for $125 each. I will have to pull the heads to see what I got. I've bought 2 69 LTD's for about $250 each. Pulled the motor and sold the body to the scap yard for +- $200. I keep the 9" rear ends. I think $500 to $700 is high, but each area is has different pricing. Run a ad in the local paper and see what is out there.

These engines are a dime a dozen, almost. Here in CA every Pick a part has a dozen or so. 250 is about the rate with no core. The ones in the trucks usually have the right alt. brackets and more usable trinckets. Only bad thing is you can't for sure tell what they are until you take then apart. There are still alot of 428 cranks out there and good blocks. I got an old 65 ford PU two months ago for free. Turned out it had Low Riser Heads, Adj rockers, low riser intake and a 390 crank. I would have bet it was a 352 at first. I sold most of the stuff on Ebay already. Very fun, good luck.

Remember most FEs have "352" cast on the front of the right hand bank as the exterior core patterns were the same for most FEs. Ya gotta measure to be sure...
