They do tend to leave little spots on the floor no matter what you do. Pan, valve covers, breathers, etc. But that's the price you have to pay for a Viagra substitute.

Mine doesn't leak, period. I did take extreme pains to make every sealing surface secure. All though many do leak, it's really just a matter of putting it together right in the first place.
There are tricks to getting it right and some parts are tougher than others. Like stamped steel valve covers are harder to seal than alloy valve covers (there more stiff). Using 'just enough' silicone seal is better than using to much (on many levels). CLEAN surfaces are a must.
Now that rear main seal, I lit three candles, threw salt over my shoulder and knocked on wood before I started that one. :D Whew, got lucky!

It is not "Permatex" as we know it, but is manufactured by them.

Hmmm, I didn't use Permatex, but it IS a good product.

The Brits have a saying for their bikes, that applies to Cobras. "They aren't leaking oil, they are just marking their territory!" :D

The Permatex Right Stuff works better than anything else I have used. But first you have to find where the drip is coming from. I gave up on my big block and just decided to put a piece of cardboard under it to catch the drips as I have been all over that dam motor with a microscope and a black light and dye and still can't fine where the leak it. I know it is not valve covers or the back or front of the intake. Ernie is lucky. I have had FE engines from the 332 up to the 427 tunnel ports and every one of the dam things would drip no matter what I did.

Excaliber, You are fortunate! The only leak I have now is the breathers. Anyone have a voodoo trick for that?

Al,
I don't know if this would mess up your set up or not, but could you get the breather caps with the outlet on top and run a hose to some point in the intake where it would pull the oil vapor back inside and burn it like in the closed systems? I am not to familiar with the injections set ups and don'tknow if it would mess them up or cause other problems.

Of course I only have about 4000 miles on my motor, it's to early to tell where the 'leaks' WILL come from down the road!
While most prefer the classic black paint for the block, I went with blue (also 'correct') for two reasons:
1. Brighten things up a bit under the hood.
2. Easier to spot engine leaks and nip it in the bud!

:)
Ernie,
My block is blue and even with the darn dye I can't find where the leak is. I can easily spot where the wind has blown oil, but I think the leak must have to have pressure to happen. Now it looks as if I may also have a water pump starting to leak a little. I am tired of cars and their problems. Just once I would like to go a few months without something happening.

How much of a leak do some of you feel is acceptable? Mine doesn't leak at all unless I get the oil temp. up to operating temperature.(80C) When I let the car set overnight I find a puddle about the size of two silver dollars.

Well that is a lot larger than mine. I find about two drops per night on the floor. Sometimes three or four drops just after I drive it and the oil is hot. In fact I just called an engine builder here and he is going to try to work me in next week so we can put it on the lift with it running and see if we can spot where it is coming from and he said he would also look at the water pump too.
Ron
