410 FE on Ebay
Since a few weeks this auction is on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...8014627&rd=1,1 Any idea who is behind that? How does it sound to you? Well the feedback bothers me as they have no past sales for engines. They bought an engine stand tho, some t shirts and a mouse pad among other purchases. With a feedback rating of 11 and all purchases. No sales. I like to see some solid feedback on past engine sales. Otherwise who knows who built it and what's in it. It's a 406 not a 410. 4.13 bore and 3.78 stroke. I'd question what "special racing 427 crank" it has. The standard nodular iron or if it is indeed forged steel. Are the big "R" heads C6AE-R's? As big as a 428??? What do they mean? Valve size? I'd like to see some actual pictures of what I was getting not just a poser pic.The reverse 105 block hopefully has the thicker wall cores. I'm just not feeling the love here. And if it's going to ship to Germany I'd hate to see you get hosed. These guys sound liike the old "Indy Mustang" guys. Bad news. I've seen these guys advertise engines before. But I've never seen any sell. I think money would be better spent with Keith Craft, Southern Automotive, Gessford etc...you'll spend a little more but your dealing with professional and well known people in the trade.

A 428 sleeved down to a 390? Whats the point. I can see going for a shorter stroke to increase rpm or build rpm faster, but a smaller bore? I don't get it...
|
Take a pass. Really does not add up. Not buying that it has a 427 crank either.
|
Excaliber, reading the ad, I don't think it has been sleeved down to a 390. I think it has been bored to 428 specs. So you end up with a short stroke 428 so it should rev better than a 428. I think that is what he means.
Westcott, I would want to see good photos of the heads and crank prior to doing anything with this. It should be a good preformer. Jim , |

Your right, 411.2 cubes. I missed that one....LOL G. |
The specs on ebay don't seem to match whats in the parts list that was provided.
ebay "390/428 rods" list "390/427 rods" (could be a typo) Then there's the mention of 428 service block, 406 was made for 1 race season 62/63 and based on the 390 block  The 406 is a solid lifter only block (not drilled for hyd.) the list says Hyd. lifters. I agree something says "stay away from this one" Mike |

The 427 is like a bored out 406, and the 428 is like a stroked 406. The ad says: DO YOU WANT A BIG BLOCK LOOK AND SMALL BLOCK REVS?? - this is a racing engine 406 .030 over designed to rev like a 351 and run like a big block (well it IS a big block) you can cream ricers with this 500 hp 525 ft lb* (max hp with victor jr intake and electronic ignition) monster that will rev to 6500 before it starts to droop. this engine has a special racing 427 ford crank 3.78" stroke and heavy duty 390/428 rods and forged pistons. the cam is a radical 427 FE unit that sports 308 duration with .605 lift. it is fitted with a set of remachined ported "R" heads as big as a 428 - compression is 10:1 - 12:1 yr pref. The block is a blueprinted rev 105 heavy duty FE bored to 4.13. featuring thick cylinder walls and a 3rd web in the mains. it will fit any early ford that used a big block FE including a cobra. we even installed one in a fox body mustang. a 4bbl 390 hipo intake is included, as well as an electronic ignition and plugs and wires with a reworked holley 4bbl double pumper carb. chrome valve covers and a chrome air cleaner finish out the package. it will look similar to the picture but the pic is not the one you get - it isnt completed enough for pictures yet, leaving you some wiggle room. it can be finished out to look like the picture. call me for more info 317-250-3320 or email for a complete listing of parts actually used. * the figures are from desktop dyno and reflect maximum possible hp and not neccessarily the hp you will get. hp is not warranted - the engine is warranted for defects and workmanship but not for usability or misuse. Well, if the engine is bored out to 4.130", then I would think theblock was originally a 390, stock 4.050" bore. Although some 390's can be overbored 0.080", I don't think there are that many that could be overbored 0.110", to 4.160". So is the engine block an originqal 428 bored out 0.030, or a 390 block bored out to 4.130". My guess, being that it may not be that clear, is that the block is a 428 block bored out 0.030 to 4.160, for a displacement of 411.02 ", about 410. |
It is a 428 bored to fit according the parts list the seller sent to me, see my thread start.
But we decided last week to rebuild my 4Bolt Cleveland with mech roller cam and roller lifters ( crane 528371 and 44570-16), new oil pump and canton pan. The block, heads, Eagle H-beam rods and Sealed Power Pistons can be used again. It should make a bad combo as it was before... The season is comming up here an i will be prepared:) It would take too much time to adapt the FE now, cutting and welding new headers, adapt the tremec and so on before May. Because of my job i'm on business trips to BMW Engineering Centre and 5and6-series-plant for future projects, 3-4 days a week, the whole year, and have just the weekends left. Therefor, the switch to FE is now planned for winter this year maybe spring next year. New ideas are: Pond short block, Edelbrock heads and all the parts bought in the US and assembled here in Germany. So thanks a lot for all your input. I'll be back :) |
