My MSD distributor came with the bronze gear. It is known as a "wear" item. It wore out and left me stranded. I prefer the Pertronix unit.

How many miles did it have on it when it failed? I also have a brass gear and, since I had the distributor out this past weekend, I inspected it closely and it still looks new - no sign of wear after 9,800 miles. Kevin |
Depending on the cam, they advise not to use the bronze gear.
I changed mine out to the recommended gear and have been running it for close to 10 years. |
