Rod Bearings?
Hi All,
I just removed one piston to check what rod bearings I have. They are Clevite CB760PE (12 88). It has been quite some time, although very few miles, since the motor had been rebuilt and I do not have the spec sheet. I thought the crank had been ground which I would assume about .010. I tried measuring the crank journal which appeared to be 2.432. When I went online to check the Clevite PN their was no indication the bearing is +/- .010 or so. I will recheck my crank journal measaurment. The back of the bearing does not indicate any type of +/- size. Just the Clevite PN. If the bearing was different from stock wouldn't be indicated either on the back of the bearing or on the Summit website? BTW this is a 65/66-427 S/O. C5AE-6300-C=Crank Thanks, Mike |
Normally they are marked on the bearing when undersized. Only way to be sure is to mic the crank, or have someone due it for you. My thoughts, Jim

I agree with wolfman. Upon dis-assembly of my FE, the bearings were very clearly marked .010", marked so good in fact, you can see a backwards mirror image of the numbers on the rod caps even. I would think they would be marked as so, but would never assume the crank wasn't turned just because no numbers are visible. Definately mic it.
