Edelbrock Head Info
I recently purchased a new set of Edelbrock heads from a known racing warehouse. I am wondering if I made a mistake by not purchasing from someone who reworks the heads before they go out.
I see all kinds of ads and comments about Stage I, II or III. The heads I received are ok but the intake ports really look rough. Lots of core mis-match, pretty sloppy matching to the gasket, to the point of having some reverse angles Does anyone have any pictures of a few Edelbrock ports that have been reworked so I can draw a comparison of whether I want to send them back, get them reworked or just live with em Thanks Paul |
Paul,
IMHO, yes. I would purchase a matching cam, and a prepped set of heads. Kieth Craft stage II comes to mind, and the cam can be tailored to your intended use, and rotating assembly specs. Brad |
PaulProe,
I purchased a set of bare RPM performer FE's on my build, I didn't have the budget for all the CNC work so my son and I did all the port and polish work ourselves. Its not hard, you just need to give each runner the proper attention and take your time. The port and polish kit was about $45 or so, truly the end results depend on how much time you are willing to put into the job. Gimme a call if you go the do it yourself route, I would be happy to loan you my grinding tool and P&P kit if you need it. Mark http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...94port_job.jpg |
I forgot to mention that everyone I talked with said the CNC port and polish is the way to go..."flow" the heads (?) I believe that is the term... it just takes bucks.

Paul,
I am in a similar boat, as I also purchased a set of complete Edelbrock heads from a catalog supplier. I picked up a set of custom rocker shafts and end supports at the Columbus swpa this fall. I'm still looking at rocker arms. My motor is for a street driven '67 GT500, and I wanted to do a little bit of port work as well. While I think they would do okay out of the box, with a little work, I imagine an improvment can be gained. I looked at the Keith Craft line and decided that to save a little $$ I would just port match and do a light polish on mine myself. Did you select a rockershaft set-up yet? Cam? I think the Edelbrock springs are good for maybe a .550 lift cam, but there are other factors to consider as well. Good thread! I will watch for suggestions. thanks, Mike C. |

Mark,
I'll give you a call and set up a time we can get together. I'd like to see what you have. Mike, I spoke to Tony at Keith Crafts. He said they would rework my heads, new springs, retainers, etc for $600. I am now contemplating my next step. The guys at FordFE forum have also posted some pictures for me. Tony suggested a Stage I rework which is only a mild bowl match. I am contemplating my next step. Paul |
