FE Crane Sportsman Shaft Rocker Arm Kit

Has anybody used and/or abused the crane cams sportsman shaft rocker kit (shafts, rockers, stands, spacers, bolts) and if so, how well do thay hold up ? Thay seem reasonably priced at $480 from Jegs (I did not check on if the Pro Series was available for the FE or price )

I had a set and sold them. The guys over at the FE forum had way too many bad stories.

Wild Side,

Go to www.fordfe.com and do a search. The general consensus seems to be that those rockers are crap. The Ersons are a bit more money but it's probably money well spent.

Recommend Precision Oil Pump Rocker assembly

Call Doug and tell him that I mentioned him (friend of mine). He has every thing you need and used to work for Ford Power Parts. All the parts (rocker, etc.) are machined in the Fresno area. See the link to some of the items listed on ebay that he sells. He is also a ARP dealer.

The Ersons are a very nice package.
They run around $700....

WLD SIDE 02-08-2007 07:26 PM

Thanks’ for the replies. I tried to search fordfe but I’m not to computer literate and could not find anything close. I guess Erson must be the only good set up to use because that is the only one that anyone talks about. I know it’s only a couple of a hundred + a little more but man everything for fe’s are “a” little more.

????????????????????

What are you talking about?

fastrods 02-08-2007 08:24 PM

I used them on my engine and am very happy with them.
They were one of the few things that I did not have a problem with!
I used Harland Sharp on the last fe I built and they were very good too.

Anybody here use Scorpion roller rockers? I spoke to a shop that frequents CC and they suggested them. Others say they are crap and the Harland Sharp are nice. Any word on the Scorpion units?

SFM5S159 03-06-2007 03:08 PM

I'll try again, anybody use the Scorpion rocker arms?
Thanks,
Mike C.

I didn`t even know that Scorpion made aluminum rockers for a FE. AS for the Ersons, I`ve had a set on my Fairmont drag car for over 6 years now, never had any problems with them. Another thing to consider is that the Ersons, to the best of my knowledge, are the only true roller rocker available for the Ford FE for under $1,000. The Harlan Sharp, Dove, Comp Cams, Cranes etc all have roller tips, but the shaft rides on either a bronze bushing, or in most cases, just bare aluminum. The Ersons have needle bearings at the shaft pivots. For the money, the Ersons can`t be beat. There are a few other true roller rockers for FE`s, most notably Jessel, T&D, and the FE Max units, but they are 2 to 3 times more costly, and normally require machining to the heads that will prevent the Ersons or any other stock style of rocker from ever fitting anymore. Also the T&D`s and I believe the Jessels as well, oil thru the pushrods, rather than the factory shaft oiling system. Considering that many 427 blocks are not drilled for lifter oiling, and no factory type FE lifter or pushrod was provided with holes for pushrod oiling, this could be a major concern.
