Where to buy 427 timing pointer?
Does anyone have a source (new or used) for the special timing pointer used with the 427 balancer?
|

Or try Dennis at www.dscmotorsport.com the finishline version looks like the std FE style. The 427 used a larger dia balancer thus a different pointer. Also try the classifeds at www.fordfe.com and last I see quite a few on epay from time to time. Perogies might have an original but they are a little expensive. But the quality is all there.

427 timing pointer needed
Thanks for the replys, guys.
jwoodard The correct timing pointer for a 427 is different than the one that Finishline sells. But thanks for the link. FFR428 Thanks for the leads. I didn't see anything on these sites. I'll email them, though, and see if they have one that's not listed. I searched the archives on fordFE.com and came up empty. If anyone has an original or repro timing pointer for a 427, or knows where I can buy one, please respond. I'm still looking for one. Thanks! |
I'd try Ebay.....that's where I bought mine. Paid less than $5 for it.

Perogie has a "427 timing pointer" listed for $125. I'm not sure if these changed from year to year or if the same style was used for years. Ask them for pics and see what it looks like. But I'm sure it's the correct part if you need/want the correct pointer. FWIW the Pioneer balancer I bought is the same size as an original 427 balancer. They include a new pointer. I'd have to think they might work about the same at a fraction of the cost? Maybe give them a try? You can aways use it till you find a real 427 one that might not break the bank as much.

You got one hell of a deal if it looks like the one below. I suspect yours is a standard 390-type pointer, though. eBay was the first place I looked, by the way, but there currently aren't any correct ones listed. FFR428 Another member sent me a link to this: http://www.dearbornclassics.com/cgi-...ory=ENGINECOMP Appears to be an exact repro for quite a bit less than Perogie. No suprise there, if you have ever tried to buy anything from them. This is one of those items those "in the know" look at to see if the FE in question is really a 427. I seriously considered going the aftermarket balancer route, but I picked up a nice original 427 balancer at Columbus a couple of weekends ago and now need the matching pointer. Thanks for the replies. I appreciate you guys taking the time to help me out. Doug |
Well there you go!! Good deal and lots less than the original. I had looked for some time for a nice 427 balancer. After endless snipes on the nice ones I went the new route. And I've bought from Perogie before... long ago. And expensive then too!! :3DSMILE:
Good luck! G. |
Brian McDevitt [fordmuscleparts@adelphia.net] I just got one from him. Great guy and he is always looking for Ford stuff in case you have something collecting dust on the shelf.
