New FE block in original GT500
Original GT500 with blown motor! I am thinking about a Genesis, Pond or Shelby block to replace the 428. Would it lower the value of the car? a cobrajet motor is easy to find but I would like something better. :confused:

Were the car mine and if it is truly an original Shelby GT 500 I would rebuild what you have. People are obsessed with "numbers matching". If you ever decide to sell it with an other than original engine, the after market engine (no matter how prestigious the manufacture) will not add any value and perhaps detract from its interest. Your "blown motor" needs some defining details before you make or ask for help in making such a decision. How extensive is the damage? Upon your description, the replies will come. RB |

I have a 428 motor with the "S" code block. This motor would be perfect for a 67- 68 GT 500. What date code do you need?

As long as you keep the original block with the car it's a fairly easy change over if you ever sell the car. What happened to the block? You can always sleeve or repair the block and store it away. Go for the 427!

If 82 were a well known racer that the 'Old Man' would personally build, document and sell an engine to for his specific GT 500 I would agree that such a non original engine would certainly add great value to the car. In the real world 82 is probably just like you and me, a hobbyist with a real neat toy. Unless the block is total toast, rebuild it (could be a lot cheaper to do as well). The big buck GT 500 that you linked to at BJ would have been gone over with a fine tooth comb for it to reach the numbers it achieved. Didn't hurt that Shelby was there to document and build excitement for it either. That car was better than new. 82, describe "blown" for us. RB |

Spun a main bearing! it is rebuildable but I think a little more perk would be welcomed like a 454 motor for example, Shelby aluminum block and 428 crank for example! could keep the original motor stored and build a nice big bore motor! maybe use a pond block?

The minute you throw out the original engine, blown or not, you loose. Go ahead and put some high performance engine in it, and enjoy the extra Hp. But DO NOT get rid of the original. If you do, you will be throwing away at least 40% of the value of the car. Just my two cents.
