Dove Block, Is it good?

I am still in the thinking stage about my new motor! How good is the Dove block? about the heads? Dove claimes it is copied on the Nascar block! Any feedback welcomed!

If you are thinking aluminum, you have 3 great choices in Shelby, Genesis and Pond. Nothing against Dove, but given some of the past quality issues of other components, I'm not sure I would look beyond those three.
Just my $.02.

I've heard of problems with the Genesis block. Something to do with the cam
"journals", anyway the cams tended to wear prematurely. This was from Lee Holman when they experimented with the blocks.
This may be fixed though.

John that's interesting. How long ago was it you heard that?

I talked to Lee Holman about 6 months ago when I was thinking of buying one of their old NASCAR engines that was for sale locally. I had the numbers off the engine and was trying to find the history. Unfortunately they didn't keep records that far back. We started to discuss sideoilers and I mentioned the Genesis, Pond or Dove block (I'm not sure which now). That's when he told me that they experimented with them and found the problem with the cam alignment which caused premature cam wear. You could call HM to find out which one they experimented with.

Thanks for the info John. I'll have to look at that really well and see if i'll have a problem. I just got my cam Friday so I might spend some time on this today. Seems like a good thing to do on a nice rainy New England Sunday. :3DSMILE:
