Valve covers hitting master cylnder ?
My valve covers on my 427 side oiler are hitting my master cylnder for the brakes. The way I see it I have a couple of options:
- modify the pedal assembly and move the master cylnder toward fender 1" or so - notch valve cover (I do not want to do) Am I missing something ? If they made a dual reservoir master cylnder for a disc/drum set-up that only had the exits on the fender side then I would be clear. Any ideas would be appreciated. |
Corvette master for four wheel disc?

What kind valve covers and what kind of car might help:confused:
|
I have the original Shelby pent roof valve covers and the car is a 67' Fairlane. The engine is an original 427 side oiler. I talked to Wilwood and they said they do have a Chrylser Master Cylnder that only exits on the fender side but it was 1.125 bore which they thought was a little big for a disc/drum application.
Thanks. |
For a '67 Fairlane, you probably want the factory style valve covers which have a relieved or flattened or notched (however you want to refer to it) valve cover on the driver's side for just this reason.
I believe Master Power Brakes has a smaller diameter master cylinder for that application which might solve your problem. But I'm not sure of that. |
Are you running power brakes? I had the same problem with the 427 in my 1967 Mustang. I slipped a washer between the inboard power booster studs and the firewall. The 1/16" "shims" shifted the master cylinder at least 1/2" away from the valve covers.

There is a guy on ebay selling FE valve covers, modified for a master. I THINK it might even be DSC. Do a seach under 427 Cobra, that's where I noticed them.
|
I did an EBAY search but I did not see one that claim to be modified for a master cylinder. I saw the Blue Thunder and Cobra 427 covers sold by DSC motorsports.
Do you happen toknow which ones you saw ? Thanks. |
This is what I saw, no idea if it's what you need....

Thanks. I have emailed DSC Motorsports to try to get some dimensions. They look so close to what I have that it is hard to imagine that they get me the extra 1/2" to 3/4" that I need.

the master that has become quite popular for your needs is off a 68 mustang with power front discs/rear drums---dual res/fender side exits---less than $100 new
