427 SOHC in ERA 726

Cammer is finally in its new home; hopefully for a long time. :D See my gallery for pics.

Atta Boy! (My highest compliment)

If money was no object, the 427 SOHC would be my choice for a Cobra, bar none. It looks great.

Did you assemble it yourself?

BossCER 07-15-2007 08:09 PM

Nice work. More details would be great!

Anthony 07-15-2007 09:00 PM

Beautiful.

Did you dyno it before installation?

What are the specs, displacement & CR ? What was torque and HP ?

Chaplin 07-15-2007 09:03 PM

Looks great! You must have supplied Peter with a lot of steak dinners- I thought he swore he'd never do another one of those.

eschaider 07-16-2007 12:58 AM

Awesome!

My favorite version of the FE engine family. When you open the hood the visual impact is off the scale, not to mention the go fast impact of all that horsepower. Really nice job!

Congratulations on a neat build.

Don't you just love it when everything just comes together. I see you are running a pre-fuel filter. Would you give more information as to where you were able to find it and is it gutted or functional?

BossCER, Anthony,
NOS motor that was never fired. I broke its virginity 3 weeks ago. 427 cu, blocked honed +.002 with torque plates, stock crank, rod journals ground to B/B Chrysler diameter, Carillo rods, Forged True pistons, custom ground Crane billet cams, Milodon gear drive on stub cam, Donovan stainless valves in heads, Aviaid pan, HV pump, Single four intake(I also have dual four), stock distributor w/Pertronix conversion. I wanted a good street motor with few problems and some drivability. No radical cams or 14:1 compression.

elric 07-16-2007 09:50 AM

Chaplin, I've invited Peter into town many times for one of the best steaks in the midwest (Corper's Five O'clock Club) but he hasn't taken me up on my offer yet. Peter and the guys at ERA have been great to work with; no complaints here.

elric 07-16-2007 09:52 AM

JM Corby,

fuel filter is fully functional. Its an NOS one that I got from ebay of all places. I hate buying anything from there.

Traveller 07-17-2007 08:51 AM

I'd love to have a cammer.

(I'd hate to change header gaskets.)

I'm green with envy. Well done!

elric 07-18-2007 09:41 AM

Actually, the primary pipes are very easy to deal with. Removing valve covers is another story!

Cammer 07-18-2007 10:05 AM

Elric,

Glad to see that Peter and the boys are still doing these installs.

He told me when he built mine - ERA #463 that he was not going to do any more cammer installations...........that's too cool an install to not do in my opinion.

I too found a new SOHC, in the crate - never been run engine for my cobra.

It's a totally awesome engine and has its own unique sound........way too much horsepower for a small car - but, as you know you can never have toooo much horsepower!!!!

Beautiful car..........welcome to cammer nation.

That is an impressive power plant you have taking up the entire engine compartment.

Well done!!!!

:D

sideoiler10 07-26-2007 05:44 AM

Hey Elric

AWESOME!!!!!

Where in the world did you find a NOS cammer? The last time I talked with a builder that knew the cammers, he said it would take about $30-35 K to put one together. Looks like you might have had more than that in it had you not built it yourself.

BTW, what are the dyno numbers on that monster. Bet the "Oooooh" from the crowd when you pop the hood is almost as loud as the motor.:)

Thanks for posting the photos. Good Luck, man! Bob

elric 07-27-2007 09:59 AM

Thanks Bob.
Your builder probably isn't too far off the mark with his numbers. Parts are unique and expensive and finding someone good enough to put it all together is the most difficult thing.

Steve
