prefered head sealant for alluminum heads

I seem to have an alluminum head with a slight crack in the coolant passage to outside near #6 plug. The crack may reach to the rocker area as I'm getting a bit of coolant in oil causing foam. I used silver seal and it lasted about a year. verry slight but not absolute. No compression leak into coolant. Any suggestions?

A new head. Water in the oil will cause too many problems to risk it.

Replace or have the head welded

Mike you are going to wash down all the bearing in that motor if coolant is getting into the oiling system. That motor will become junk. Coolant is NOT A LUBERCATE. If the head is Alum, send to a good machine shop and have it fixed and PRESSURE TESTED. A good welder should have no problem. After the head is repaired you may want to look into a coating company for sealing the coolant ports inside the head. Head repair with gaskets and parts under $700.00 if you do the work. Replacing an FE motor or rebuild price shock of about $5,000.00. Did you stay at a Holiday inn lately. Better to fix it correctly once that go cheap and get a major bill later.%/ Rick Lake
