Need Help '63 427 Top Oiler

I'm in the process of researching for a Cobra and will probbaly go with a new backdraft, however due to DMV issues in NJ I need to use a seasoned block pre-74. This will expemt me from all emmisions. In any event, I found an original 427 Top oiler in excellect condition can any one share their thoughts about this engine. I know the preferred is the 427 side oiler, but finding an original one in good condition is rare.

A good choice, will need a good rebuild to make it right I'm sure. Nothing wrong with a top oiler!

I have a 63 427 TO with over 20k miles on it. Solid lifters make people try to tell me that I need to adjust valves  but other than that it runs strong and hard

No problem with a top oiler. Had one in my 63 1/2 Galaxie. Great engine.

You might also consider a Pond block which has the original casting numbers from 1965.
