Durasparking a Ford Dual Point

Somewhere, somebody knows how to put the Duraspark guts in my Ford Dual Point. Anybody?

Well, I will have to do this myself. It actually looks very easy but to achieve what I really want-Very dependable electronic ignition that looks like the real thing I must first do some mods.
1. Put bearings in the top & bottom of dis.
2. Cut down the cam lobe.

Then it all sort of bolts together I think. I will keep you posted.

Why do you have to cut down the cam lobe? Just curious as I've been thinking about going this route myself.

Thanks,
G.

Duraspark conversion

Ok here goes ... instead of converting a valuable 427 dual point ..why not go to any autopartstore and buy a rebuilt distributor for the latest FE series motor ..370's came in school buses .. take that Duraspark distributor and bolt it right in ..then you need to search for a RED strain relief duraspark I calif 1977 302 only 1978 - 1979 ..which is the higher output Module. the rest ..like wiring is available right of the internet. Back in the 80's FMS used to sell a nice kit which included all the parts because you HAVE TO USE A DURASPARK COIL also ... I think it was because it has a built in ballast rsistor .. that can also be purchased at an autoparts store.

The inductor that replaces the old "cam" should come up off of the shaft after you remove the c-clip in the center( below the lube wick). Then the cam can be removed form the dual point and the inductor should slide right on. Pretty easy conversion , I think, although I have only done the vacuum advance ones. I'll examine the 2 dual point ones in the shop, but I think they are all built pretty standard as far as that part.

As Woodz428 explained, all that is required to do this is the remove the cam assembly which slides off the inner shaft after the wire "C" clip under the rotor is removed. Then remove the point plate and the plate from the later distributor fits in and is held down by 2 screws. Ford used the existing inner shaft. All the parts from a late 70s 302 distributor will fit inside the old body (1958 and later) and can be easily retrofitted. The only downside is getting the advance curve dialed in as it requires complete disassembly to access the advance mechanism.
