Thermostat Temperature ?

I am trying to select the correct thermostat temperature for my 427 side oiler that I have installed in a 67' Fairlane. I have a aluminum radiator from Howes Racing and I am planning Spal dual 11" electric fans. The car is primiraly for street use though Keith Craft did do a nice job on the engine giving it a healthy 580hp. It seems like there a several options for cut on and cut off temperatures and any opinions would be appreciated.

I've had a Spal fan integrated with my aluminum radiator and 427 s.o. for several years. I use the Painless Fan-Thom relay with electric thermostat, part #30103. The turn-on temp is 185 degrees, the turn-off temp is 170.

Try that one. Painless offers several other temp on /temp off electric thermostats if you decide you want a different range. Their website posts good descriptions and pictures of this set-up.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Can anyone offer a recomendation of where to buy a good quality thermostat housing for the 427 side oiler ? I have heard that the one from Summit or Jegs may not seal to the factory intake that well. I have an original 2x4 medium riser intake and I would like a nice thermostat housing.

Thanks.

What heads are you using?

I run a 185 in my FE with aluminum heads. With cast iron heads, I didn't run a thermostat at all.

I have factory cast iron medium riser heads.

Griffin told me to use a 180 degree stat and green antifreeze. Since you have a Howes radiator I would suggest calling them and getting their opinion.
