I have heard that you can save 70 lbs if you install an aluminum intake on a FE.

I read an article recently that Carroll found he could shave 150 lbs. off the weight of a 427 by changing the heads from cast to aluminum. Is this accurate?
|
no it is not
|
Heads aren't that big. You can generally look at something in the range of a 50 Lb weight reduction in going from iron to aluminum heads.
|
You do lose about 45 lbs on the intake swap.

Thanks for the info, guys, much appreciated!:)

All aluminium 427 against 289 iron small block
Badsnake427 If you go with the so call specs of above there is about a 45 lb differents. 427 iron heads 38lbs, edelbrock heads 18 lbs. Shelby block 122 lbs. own (2) iron block 210-220 lbs. Water pump iron 12-14 lbs, edelbrock water pump 4-6. iron exhaust manifolds 20-40 lbs each, set of headers, under 20 for short ones to side pipes. Shelby block is heavier than Ponds or Genesis block also by 5-10 lbs. Kirkham is coming out with a lighter block for the FE that is under 100 lbs. You can go with aluminium rods and save another 5-7 lbs over lemans rods. Rick Lake
