fe block hole question?

i bought my 360-390 block bare so i am curious what some of the holes on the pass side of the block are used for?. on the front side of the pass side there is a little pad at the top of the block what is this used for?, and on the pass side near the motormount area there is a hole above the freeze plug what is this hole used for?. any info would be appreciated.

The hole up front was originally used for generator mounting - and was later used to connect the ground cable.

thanks barry, that solves one mystery, does any one know what the other hole is for?. also what should be plugged on the drivers side and passangers side pictures would be helpfull for reference.

Since you give no casting #s or date of the block, it would probably make more sense for you to post pics of the block with any questions. There are some subtle differences between early and later block, so a pic of yours, would make any replies specificly about your block.

the block is a 72 360 block

i found today that the other hole near the freeze plug is like the one at the front of the block, and the other two on the pass side have a 1/4 pipe thread i guss there to drain the block and there is on the drivers side of the block also.
