C6FE 6090 C Alum. Heads
I have a set of these heads. They are medium rise, no casting date's. Can any one tell me any thing about them? Did they come on production cars or over the counter? And what years were they sold? Thanks Rick

These heads came on 428 police cars in the mercury line in 67-68.They were not at all reliable and were very soon replaced with cast iron heads. The seats cracked and they were very prone to warping. There was a service bullitin from Ford as I recall replacing them with the cast iron
heads. I would not use them. JMHO. Byron |
I don't recall any PI engines that came w/aluminum heads. The F that is the 3rd figure makes me think that they were used in the GT40 program on 427s. I'd have to see a service bulletin like described before I'd buy that story. They probably have much value for someone that is redoing or owns and original GT40MKII or IV. But they are old technology and newer aftermarket heads will most likely out perform them. They used smaller valves than the cast iron heads because of the area needed for hardened seats.
You may be confusing the limited # of aluminum intakes that came on some early PI engines. |
While Ford did supply some alloy heads for various racing efforts I thought they were extremely rare and never offered to the public. Pretty interesting set of heads you have there. If I was doing a really accurate to specs 'back in the day' Cobra I'd have to consider running them, in spite of the potential performance/longevity issues.

Aluminum MR heads were used on the GT40 MKIIa and other lightweight engines like the 67 GT500 Supersnake.
Aluminum TP heads were used on the GT40 MKIIb and MKIV There is a chance that the heads were made by Dove. http://www.doveengineparts.com/ |
I also bought an NOS pair that I am now running on my side oiler. I was told that you can run a little more timing with aluminum heads...anybody know this for sure. I heard that there was also a C5 variety that had some issues but the C6 version were supposed to address the problems.

Sal,
Because aluminum dissipates heat more quickly, aluminum heads do tolerate a little more lead than cast iron ones. |
