Pond 482 Update:
Ordered- Keith Craft Stage 2 Edelbrock Heads Erson Rockers Comp Cams Roller Cam Fidanza Alum Flywheel Ram (RAM-989551HDT) Clutch kit Edelbrock Perf. RPM Intake Edelbrock water pump Summit FE billet distributor (hope it works properly) Quick Fuel 780cfm carb (Keith likes this carb) As advised, I am going to have Keith build the entire engine and dyno it. Where can I get the old style Chrome stamped steel valve covers for the best price? Anyone use a Quick Time bellhousing on a Pond block yet? Thanks. |
I think you specified one of their hyd. comp cams correct? What does the cam card read? lift and duration.
I am running a 482 Pond which came off of their dyno yesterday. 601 HP @ 6100 rpm. My comp cam is 630 lift 252/262 @.050 I was told that an aluminum flywheel is not te best flywheel to have on the street. You might call David Kee to get his input. I am not personally a fan of quick fuel however I am sure that Keith will dial it in for you. I am running a BIGS 750cfm HP |

I also heard the same thing regarding aluminum flywheels on the street. I know a lot of people use them, but Gessford recommend a McLeod lightweight steel flywheel instead, which is what I used. So far so good, I have no complaints with the speed at which the motor winds up. :D |

While it's true on the aluminum flywheel's effect on leaving torque multiplication, it is really minimized with a big inch stroked FE. The pluses earned by the aluminum flywheel far exceed the minuses. People make these statements thinking about a 302.. NOT a big inch motor. You will be very pleased with the rapid spool-up the aluminum flywheel will give you. |
I have never had a problem with rapid spool up using the McLeod lightweight steel flywheel. In fact I strongly recommend a rev limiter in the range of 6000 - 6100 rpms. I am running a wide ratio toploader w/ 3.31 gear ratio.

What weight are you running
Hey Guys there are 3 weights for the flywheels 40,30, 20, for Mcleod. If you are doing alot of parades and slow driving the 40 lbs will work best. the 30 lb is in the middle of the road with helping remove 10 pounds off the back of the crank and help to let the motor rev quicker but also storing the torque energy to get the car moving. 20lb flywheel is best at roadracing and quick running up and down the RPM scale. With a light weight car, the 20 or 30 work better.I have run my 452 with both a 40 lbs steel and a 22 lbs aluminium flywheel. With the same motor and tuneup the car was .2 faster with less weight in the 1/4 mile. A car under 2,700 lbs doesn't need a heavy flywheel. IMO. You need to build a drive train that can hold the HP and torque. The twin street disc setup should hold just about any motor in a cobra that is under the 800HP rule and still have a light clutch pedal. Rick L.
