fe intake manifold question?

i have a edelbrock victor efi manifold part number 29365 for my 445 stroker, it has a hole at the rear of the manifold i guess it was used for a oil fill or breather?. the manifold comes with a block off plate could i drill out the plate and put a gromet and run my pcv valve off of it?. i have the ford motorsport cobra lemans valve covers and planned on running the twist in chrome caps with breathers. will this work or would i have any problems.

You mean, something like this?

Blue Thunder sells a billet breather basket with a stainless "brillo pad" to put in that spot as an oil seperator - - make sure to use it - or something like that below the PCV tube...

wrench87 02-23-2008 05:58 PM

i have just the plate with out the tube, i have a 4 barrell style throttle body i thought it would be nice to hide the pcv valve there instead of putting it in the right side valve cover, then i could run the hose from the back of the t body down to the plate.

wrench87 02-23-2008 06:00 PM

so that would be like a small block ford stock set up ?. where can i find a picture of the breather basket your talking about?.

RICK LAKE 02-23-2008 06:00 PM

Yes you can

wrench87 Yes you can put a PCV valve there. That hole is really for a return line from the puke tank for oil. I run a breather and pcv on my valve covers. There are shields in most valve covers to keep oil from being sucked into the pcv and then the motor. The other thing is that the EFI manifold should be balanced ported for all the cylinders. There is between a 10-40cfm differents between ports. Joe craine will balance up the manifold to within 5-8 cfm. This way you have all clinders working the same. My dove went to him, it was worth the money. %/ You have the heads ported. He has about a 1 week turn around time. Rick L.

There is a lot of oil back there -- mine leaked so bad that the only way I could get it stop was with a dainty bit of RTV.

rick, i received my heads last week form keith craft, i could not believe the difference in port size between the heads and the victor manifold, how much does it cost to have theat intake work done? i thought the victor was a performance manifold you would never know that by seeing the difference in size.

Heads and intake

The Edelbrock Victor intake comes pretty small at the port opening. It does need to be gasket matched for maximum performance. It is smaller than the Performer RPM intake because they expect it to get matched to the heads. Good luck, Keith

the dove website has a nice picture of the basket, but no price was listed?.
iwonder what something like that costs.

Years ago I tried to run my PCV from the back of the manifold, to include the wire mesh basket. I always had trouble with oil ingestion from it back there till I moved the PCV to a valve cover. There's just too much turbulance and oil flinging around between the manifold and block. Ford's original OEM intent was for a draft tube in that location.

I agree with Dave. The "pcv in the passenger side" and "open breather in the driver side" valve covers works very well. It's a simple, straight forward system that is really hard to argue against.

wrench87 02-24-2008 08:40 AM

thanks for the advise that was what i was looking for i will just run it in the valve cover like i did with my small block. i just thought it would be a nice clean look from that rear plate but i dont want any oil leaks or any oil in my t body.

cobred 02-24-2008 11:25 AM

I have been running the basket from Gessford for 3 years now with a single breather in the front of the blue thunder intake. No problems and it is a clean look. For a gasket I matched up a t-stat gasket from the parts store, no sealant. I think it cost $70 when I bought it.

I bet I've spent $70 in RTV alone.... Dang FEs.

$98 in the link I posted above.
I made my own. Using a valley pan and have no problems with oil ingestion.

Intake porting

wrench87 Joe craine's # 210-521-4620. He is in Texas Best time to call is between 12-4 p.m. You will have to talk to him about price It depends on how much work is needed to the ports. My bill was $325.00 plus shipping both ways. Well worth the money. You will need to tell him that KCR did the head work so he can match up the ports for the manifold and heads. The ports come back lookin like jewelry. Alot of work was done. Rick L. Ps IMO put the PCV valve in the RS valve cover and a breather in the LS cover. You are going to suck alot of oil from that low spot without some kind on separator in that spot. Rick L.

SoTxButler 03-25-2008 07:35 PM

I am having a stack injection manifold built for my FE. So, can I eliminate the breather if I run PCV on the passenger side valve cover and the breather on the other? It would be nice to lose that opening.
