Valve Cover Breathers (K&N)
Guys,
Need help in determining what K&N Part number would fit the LeMans style valve cover (twist on) for a breather. Any suggestions would be appreciated as well as pics... I'm having some blow-by in the current set-up (breather) and thought I would try the K&N Crankcase Vent filter before going another route... Thanks, |
blowby????
What do you mean by blowby???
|
oil seepage from current breather on valve cover...
thanks, |
Can we assume you have a splash plate under the hole?
|
Jamo,
I do have a splash plate... thanks, |
Just to be clear,
I'm running a Pond 482 with the LeMans Cobra Valve Covers. It seems at higher RPM's I experience this problem.... |
I'm running a 482 Shelby with the same covers. I use K&Ns...with the rubber bottoms, but my builder added threaded holes in my valve covers, so they hold/seal with no problem...even at high rpms.
I also have the back of the manifold breather hole hooked up to a traditional oil separator tank (ie., a breather in itself). |
Jamo, what intake are you running?
|
Shelby......... (dots added to make message long enough)
|
OK High rpm only
No PCV valve?
Have you ever run the engine without the valve covers on to adjust the valves? How much oil is in the heads? Does the oil drain back to the crankcase quickly? Our engines are nothing more than an air pump and if the crankcase is not under a certain amount of vacum all that oil spashing around. Positive Crankcase Ventilation Do the breathers have a wire mesh under them to filter out the oil? I am sorry for all the questions but I have been thru this before. I hated to see even a drop of oil anywhere. |
Nantucket...you didn't address your post to someone in particular.
Personally, I'm not running a PCV...does just fine without it like they did before PCVs came along. :) |
Sorry to Rosco
I think you should run a PCV or limit the flow of oil to the heads.
Jamo, It is well know from looking at you avater that you have adequate ventilation. |
Yes...yes I do indeed. :p
