Wire Separators
I'm having a problem and I'm hoping club members can help me with.
I have FE engine with Cobra LeMans valve covers with a flange for mounting a 4 wire separator. Unfortunately, I have tried Ford dealers , on-line parts, etc. but have not been able to find the wire separators anywhere. Even a on-line sites (such as Jegs) who have the actual valve covers were unable to tell me where to find the weparators. The separator is a three separted finger part which slips over the flange to hold the spark plug wires over the valve covers. Would appreciate any help locating a vendor for the parts. A part number would be most helpful. Thanks for your help. |

separators

for small wire diameter, the aftermarket wires are too thick to fit into them. i used msd's separator and tapped the plastic separator for a #6 screw on most valve cover tangs there are 2 holes to run the screws thru. i used short 6-32 stainless shcs ran them in from the carb side so you dont see them. |
ps....I know a guy that can get 8mm wire holders if you need them....(I believe std was 6mm or 7mm). If you need these larger ones, pm me.

A heat gun will make them work...
Get a heat gun (low setting) or a hi-powered hair dryer and "warm up" the OEM separator on the valve cover, then start by pressing the 2 inside wires in the 4 wire separator and then the two outside wires. Press them in then don't mess with them for about 15 minutes. They take a set and will receive the wires in the future w/o worries of separator breakage. The 8 mm/8.5 mm wires will fit like a glove.

I use a Dremel with a 5/16 cutter and open them up. Works slick
Go in from the side, like you were drilling the hole bigger, not the direction you'd push the wire in from the top. Just FYI a drill wont work, it catches the edge and breaks them, but the Dremel just sort of melts/grinds its way through. |
