ignition problem

Im running a 427 FE motor. It has the Duraspark distributor an the rev limiter box. Im having trouble. Some times it will work fine, then the next thing you know it will die. No spark at all. I have switched pickup in the distributor And it will run for a day or two. Then quit again. Has anybody had this problem. Thinking of switching ignitions, Someone tell me part numbers for an MSD unit. Everything I need to switch.

Check your grounds. Be aware that some of the earlier Duraspark boxes were very vulnerable to heat soak. They would develope an open circuit and leave the driver stranded by the side of the road, then after "cooling off" for a few minutes, they would start up again.

I would also add to check all of the connections. You might even want to break them apart and look for corrosion. When I ran an instrumentation shop in the USAF, 90% of all electrical problems were either grounds or connectors. One other place to look is for a broken or pinched wire. BTW I have a Duraspark distributor in my car, with an MSD and have never had a problem.
