Ford 427 Side Oiler on Craigslist ...

Stumbled across this on Craigslist .... I thought someone here might be interested. Price seems attractive if as described. I am unfamiliar with any differences driven by the marine application of a 427.

Most every time someone changes out their christ craft engines, these pop up. As I understand there not drilled but have the bosses.

Possible reverse rotation crankshaft as well. Interesting buy for the right price, something I might pick up if I was planning on doing my own engine (again). :D It could be a sweet deal with the original steel crank if it turns the right direction. Bore is questionable, sleeves may be needed, hard to say. Bore out the side oiler galley? Hmmm, maybe not, might just select a cam profile and keep the rpms below 6500 and it would be fine. Plan on custom pistons to get the compression ratio to a reasonable level. Let's see, I'm guessing I could rebuild within reason for another $5,000 with good stuff inside! So perhaps $8-9 grand total for a 'side oiler', not bad, not bad...

I'm not sure about the oil galley being drilled or not, I would guess some were, some weren't.

A reverse rotation crank can easily be re-configured by having a machine shop reverse the knurl.

How would they do that? Weld up the area and turn it back down or what?

The knurl has no pressure on it except the oil seal, and knurling just moves metal, dosen't take it off.
