Radiator
any suggestions for a raditor...19" x 26" (no cap) for a FE 428.. around
460 hp? I need a fan , wiring and do I need a shroud? Thanks, Jon |
I have the sams size, 'howe' made made me a double pass, talk to them as well as other mfg.

Make sure you shroud your radiator inlet as well as it's outlet. Ensure you wiring for the coolant fan is adequate. I alsways use #8 wire and a 60 amp relay. The Painless harnesses are typically marginal as far as wire size, my experiance.

You need a cross-flow.
You need it mounted as close to verticle as possible. You need it sealed to the nose so ALL AIR entering the nose goes thru the radiator. You need a good shroud that fits tight against the radiator and that has two fans capable of pulling enough CFM to "over cool" the engine. |

Mine is 17.5 x 24 x 3". It's from PRC (Performance Rod and Custom) it was about $50 less than the best Fluidyne price I could get (which are still available BTW) and I'm going to tell you it's a nicer radiator.

Griffin, Howe or Fluidyne
saltshaker Jon one of these three will work fine. I have the Griffin in my ERA for racing. The 3 things I have found out is having a the correct size pulleys on the motor. I had the racing march pulleys, they are great for racing but not street driving. This was the orginial ones that came out, all where undersized. They have a new set out for the otherheating problem. Kirkham sells a beautiful set of customs that are the right size and bolt on. Billet Aluminium. Second, I use a 180f thermostat from an older dodge the opening is larger that the FE one and any highflow one I have found. The mixture of coolant and water is also important. I have waterwetter in my system but can't tell you if it makes alot of differents. Last Fan shrouds, yes if you can get or make one yourself. The other part of this is getting the hot air out from under the hood. I have a hood with louvers that work well. I am trying 2 bildge fans from boats to pull the air out the louvers on both sides of the car. My problem is with all the fans on with car running, I have over loaded my Charging system and need to go with a 100 amp instead of 60.

I'm in the process of experimenting with a couple of bilge tunnel fans, to exhaust hot air from the engine compartment while sitting in stop & go traffic. So far I've over heated them because they are plastic and all that hot air is a killer. I've since insulated them (inside with heat tape) and outside (with insulation. Now they're holding up ....who knows for how long? Anyway, when I turn them on while sitting at a signal, with outside temp. about 115 degrees and engine temp. between 190 and 210 degrees, the fans instantly drop the engine temp. about 5 degrees. I'm still in the test mode to see if the things actually are worthwhile and serve the intended porpose. If they turn out to be a good thing, I'll most likely build some with insulated alum. tubes and metal fans. Anyway I'll try to post some pictures.. Sorry, I can't get the pictures to post.....must be doing something wrong. Bill Bill |

getting back to ordering a raditor...the question of what size tubes 1" or 1.25"

FLUIDYNE part number FHP30-SHELBY is designed as a direct-fit replacement for the original Shelby (AC) Cobra. It does have the driver's side (upper) inlet, and the passenger side (lower) outlet, overall dimensions are 23.88 inches wide by 18.00 inches tall, with a 3.150 inch core thickness. It is a 3-row radiator with 1 inch tubes.
