Dual remote oil filter

Hello,

I have the dual oil remote oil filter. I am starting to have mixed feelings of this setup.

Is anyone else running a simular setup?

Has anyone changed for this setup to a single unit?

Comments please.

dual remote oil filters

My Contemporary Cobra w/427 side oiler is runing a dual keith black set up. Don't actually know advantage except for trapping more crap in the oil.

Question. Is that two filters in series or parrallel? Parrallel would increase volume or reduce resistance.

I do and yes, it's one of my little projects this winter. I'll put a single one on and get a billet one if I can figure out where I saw it........... Summit or Jegs, I think. The double I have leaks and I can't see any advantage given the low miles I put on the car (<3,000/yr).

The advantage of the dual filter set-up is a reduction in resistance to oil flow. All units I have looked at run the filters in parallel. One way to configure this set up is to use a 10 micron filter (Mobil1) to get the fine stuff and a 30 micron filter (Moroso) to let the oil flow.

I have the Perma Cool dual filter. Yes the are in parrallel, thus lowering the resistance which should keep the oil flowing a bit better, particuarly with the added resistance of an oil cooler. Have found that the filters need to be cranked on tight to prevent oil from leaking around the gasket, but that is not really an issue. I see now downside to the dual filter arrangement.

Bob:

Maybe I am missing something. If one uses two filters in parrallel with different filtration, won't the oil simply tend to take the path of least resistance making the filter with the finer filtration surperflous? It would seem to me that the same type of filter should be used on both to assure equal flow. If there were in series it would be different, since the oil would have to flow through both, but then that would increase, not decrease, the overall resistance. Just wondering.

Are there any negative factors for using a dual remote oil filtration system?
Will it reduce oil pressure?

I use a single filter & change it and the oil regularly. Use good oil & a good filter. I don't see any reason for a dual system.

How many factory cars to do you see running a dual filter setup? Why add the complexity, extra parts that can fail, extra fittings that can leak, etc etc.

If you have the room to mount a dual filter bracket and it is arranged so the filters are parallel rather than in series. Parrallel filters would proscess the quantity of oil being sent by the oil pump. Each filter would only have to proscess half as much oil. There by reducing the restriction caused by the filters while delivering the original quantity of oil. Oil tempertures may be lowered a bit and the quantity of oil in the system would be increased by a quart. This was my thought but I couldn't figure where to locate that dual filter hanger bracket. Usually when ordering the oil filter bracket you have a choice of Ford or GM type filters, The GM filters have a larger thread nipple for a larger center hole.

I originally had a dual filter setup but went back to the single.

If you are running an endurance race and need the oil capacity , then go for it.

Or you could put on one of those titanic diesel submarine filters and go that way!!!!

If you reduce the fluid resistance and add a quart of oil to your system, I can see benefits to this in extreme circumstances, but I can also see over cooling in this setup as it might be used in a street car. Over cooling can be as nearly as destructive as over heating.
