Plugging the oil return port on an Armondo pan
 
Has anyone found something suitable for this? I am using a hose clamp and a rubber cap I dug out of a box of spare parts junk, but its not a solid long-term fix. Feedback appreciated.

Jim, if the fitting is AN, Earl,s makes caps and plugs that should work,

I should have clarified, this is an unthreaded pipe stub, probably 3/4" OD. So a traditional screw-on fitting will not work. And it cannot be threaded because its too close to the side of the pan to get a die on it.

I used a NPT aluminum plug in mine. If you put a tap in the hole and use an open ended wrench you should get the threads needed to install the plug.

That how I did it on mine

Well, its already on the engine and to avoid getting filings in the oil, I'd have to pull the pan. :( It may be cheaper/easier (and certainly cooler) to buy a puke tank from Mickmate and just hook it up.

I used the appropriate size freeze plug with some sealer.

Get the puke tank and you can find a number of manifold fittings from Gessford to hook it up. Use spring clamps and some clear thickwalled hose from Lowes or Home Depot to keep the period look.

I would hook it up rather than plugging it. Do they make compression fittings in 3/4 that you could use to cap it?

Get a cap for copper pipe from the plumbing dept. and RTV it in place.

Make sure whatever you use to plug this pipe doesn't blow-out due to positive crankcase pressure. I can tell you from experience it's a real mess when you puck oil out of an unplugged tube under full power! Obviously a fire risk too! After my mess was resolved, I used a 2" piece of 3/4" oil hose, a short piece of 3/4" solid Alum rod as the plug (or other copper fitting, per ideas above, etc) and two worn drive hose clamps. No problems since. I eventually plan to add a puke tank to replace this plug. There may be a more elegant solution out there, like a brass compression nut, etc that would fit over the tube O.D and seize down on the OD of the tube. A few minutes at a local hardware sore, or maybe Earls may yield some new ideas.

a cheap and effective solution
 
I'd hook it up to a puke tank if it was me, but barring that, try this:
Go to any local auto parts store and buy a rubber heater hose plug. They're used to block off the heater hose connection to the intake manifold or water pump. Fits over the pan fitting nicely and is held on by a standard hose clamp. Costs a couple of dollars.

Thanks for all the feeedback guys. I think the better solution is to just run a puke tank. I had planned on running one later anyway for the correct look, so what the heck, I'll do it now.
