Flywheel bolt pattern - is there more than one pattern for 390 - 428 - Scat?
 
Ok...I'm sort of stumped. I have a 482 with Scat crank. I got a flywheel for my GT project that works with a 930 transaxle, but the flywheel wasn't indexed correctly. So I go to the auto parts store to get a flex plate figuring I would send it to the company who makes the flywheels so I wouldn't get another bad flywheel....except it perfectly aligned with the flywheel I got. What the heck?

Are there more than one version of bolt patterns? YES, i did rotate the flywheel about 100 times trying to get things to align with no luck.

Brent I think 2 bolt holes that are next to are next to each other are spaced differently and will only allow the flywheel to fit in one position.

I figured out what is wrong. If I take my flywheel and place it on the flexplate and align the holes, and then I flip my flywheel now it aligns with what I have (I elongated the hole on my flywheel that was not aligning so that I could see both positions). So, I believe when they made the flywheel, they drilled it with a template reversed. Nice.

Did you attempt to rotate it and check the alignment each time it was rotated by one hole?

Not the first time Ive seen that happen. Probably quite a bit of work involved in your particular case. I would be tempted to try & fit an oversize sleeve in the correct spot once you enlarge the now elongated area, but its your call. Have done a similar trick with Holden six cyl flywheel onto SBF crank. It just happens that they have same bolt pattern, but 'offset' bolt is in wrong direction for the Ford. Motor must be internally balanced? or the balance guy would have spotted it--- seem to remember pics of your build @ KC.

I'm going to call KEP and have them make me a new one correctly. The flywheel should be zero balanced.
