Fly wheel bolts
Hello to all, this is my first tread here at Club Cobra.
I have question regarding Fly wheel bolts on my FE crate motor. This in engine is brand new. I have to change out the Bell housing backing plate, when I replace the bolts should I use any sealant or tread locker, and assuming because the engine has never been ran except on a dyno it is ok to reuse these bolts with out issue's. Just put some red Loctite on them and torque them to spec. The same goes with the pressure plate bolts.

yes use them over, personally i have never put threadlocker on them. its tough enough to get them off in a car so as it is. just torque properly and they should be fine.

Fred, keep in mind that if you buy flywheel bolts straight from Ford, they already have a locking paste applied to them. ;)
Whatever works for you is fine, but an impact wrench will zip them off, Loctite or not. I like the added security of threadlocker. |
i never ever ever, did i say never.....heheheh, get any hardware from ford. ten years of being a ford parts counterman(in a previous life) told me to beware ford will contract to anyone with a good bottom line. i usually go with a high quality fastener manufacturer. that i know what i'm getting, but i have been called very anal. it's just my way, not to say some of the stuff over the counter at ford isn't bad, its just i have no control over it.

ARP instructions for flywheel bolts SPECIFY the use of thread locking compound and no star washers under the fastener. That's not a generic instructon sheet - it's flywheel specific.
